Slough Scouts – The Big Help Out – 8th June 2024

This year Slough Scouts would like to launch their involvement of the Big Help out on an annual basis, in 2023 7.2 million people across the UK took part in the Big Help Out.  We’ll be mobilising all our volunteers on Saturday 8th June 2024 as a first go at what we hop will become an annual event supported by the community and all existing Slough Scouts volunteers. 

When?

Saturday 8th June 2024 12pm – 4pm

Where?

2nd Cippenham Scout Hut, Mercian Way, Cippenham Slough, SL1 5NA

Who?

Existing Volunteers and members of the local community.

What?

A chance to get stuck in and volunteer at a local Scout Group – Decorating, Gardening and General DIY.

Why?

  • Its what we do best – a chance to get together muck in and have a chat with fellow volunteers 
  • Free REFRESHMENTS!!
  • The change to promote your own group to be in with a chance of hosting the event next year (more information below) .
  • WIN two ‘Decathlon Archery Sets’ if your Scout Group have the most volunteers in attendance.

Awards and Social Evening !

After the big help out event we’d like to invite all current Slough Scouts Volunteers, Leaders, Trustees and Helpers to join us for an evening of celebration, food, drink and awards. Details of the location and timings of this event will be sent out directly by email.



Frequently Asked Questions:

The group hosting the event will fund the ‘project’ aspect of the day i.e. buying paint or tools to complete the work and the District will fund the social aspect as well as refreshments. This year the District will be using funds from the Restart Grant awarded to us following COVID.

We want to give you a chance to go home and change, make arrangements for children to be looked after during the evening and come back all fresh and ready to party!

Group Lead Volunteers will receive and email on how to share their idea with the District so that it can be entered into the competition. All pitches / ideas for next years project (one per group) will be displayed at the Big Help Out Event on Saturday 8th with a ballot box style voting system. The project with the most votes will be announced in the evening.

The ‘host group’ will include advertising this event to the local houses and businesses in their upcoming programme
